Tour Description

The “City of Canals” is yours to explore!

Our latest walking tour is an adventure in the unique and ancient city of Venice. Join us on a wonderful outing together with a professional English-speaking guide who will lead you on this unforgettable experience with skip-the-line access in to noteworthy historic sites. Our tour includes a special extended visit to St. Mark’s Basilica.

Whether you are a day-tripper or a long-term guest in our lovely city, this tour will inform and enrich you as we explore monuments and the culture of the Venetian people. You will be introduced to the famous highlights known round the world. You'll have time to enjoy some shopping, dining and re-visit points of interest.

Come with us and see:

Ponte di Rialto and other Memorable Sights

The oldest structure to bridge the Grand Canal is the magnificent marble Ponte di Rialto. A hefty investment in its day, the bridge has earned pride of place for function and beauty. Experience the sheer delight it brings to all who gaze upon its reflection in the water below. You’ll see where Marco Polo once lived. A world explorer, he introduced the wonders of the Far East to the Venetian people. We may sit in a campo (square) and watch the locals for a while, as they go about their daily routines.

Piazza San Marco, Palazzo Ducale

The main square of Venice is called “the Piazza,” and everyone knows we mean St. Mark’s Square. No other square is called a piazza in Venice. Napoleon was so taken with its beauty that he referred to the square as “the Finest Drawing Room in Europe.” We’ll also see the famed Palazzo Ducale, or Doge’s Palace. This Gothic residence housed the chief magistrate (doge), as well as the prison. Casanova was held here until his unprecedented escape. Today it is a fascinating museum.

Optional Doge’s Palace Walking Tour

This is an interesting and educational add-on tour. Inside the palace you’ll see Tintoretto frescoes, Viennese paintings and the actual wooden slot where accusations of treason were given anonymously to the Secret Police. See the Bridge of Sighs, named by Lord Byron, referring to a criminal’s sad walk over the canal to prison.

Basilica di San Marco

At the end of the Piazza is St. Mark’s Basilica. With its characteristic onion-shaped domes, it is a remarkable example of Byzantine church architecture. On our rare, extended tour you’ll learn of the treasures surrounding St. Mark and his era that make this a fascinating site to visit. You’ll be in awe by the 11th Century mosaics, which miraculously survived a host of fires and floods over the years.
