Tour Description

Immerse yourself in a world of wonderful art!

With an expert, licensed guide, you will be led on a fascinating walking tour through the ancient streets and piazzas of Florence. Hear the history of Renaissance Florence as you come across the numerous monuments that line the tour route.

First you'll visit the Palazzo Strozzi with a civil architecture made of rusticated stone and enter the the perfectly preserved courtyard. Slightly off the beaten track is the wonderful Palazzo Davanzati, an excellent example of a Medieval Palace. As you pass by the famous “Porcellino” (little pig) market you will arrive at the oldest bridge in Florence, the Ponte Vecchio, which dates back to the 1300’s.

Learn about the history of this enchanting bridge and also the Vasari Corridor, an enclosed passageway used by aristocracy to pass secretly from building to building and how it decided what shops would be located on the bridge. From the bridge you also have some excellent views down the river Arno and up towards the surrounding Florentine hills.

Head towards Piazza della Signoria, the political heart of Florence: the Uffizi Gallery, which on one side housed the offices of the Grand Duke and the Palazzo Vecchio and on the other side, was the seat of the Florentine government.

Then a pleasant meander through one of the oldest parts of the city to admire the tower houses that date from the 1300’s. You then emerge into the Piazza Duomo to marvel at the majestic Duomo (cathedral of Florence) with its unique marble decoration and the magnificent dome by Brunelleschi, an architectural miracle for both its bold design and daring realisation and now an enduring symbol of Florence’s Renaissance heritage.

The tour ends in front of the Baptistery with its magnificent Porta del Paradiso and Giotto’s bell tower, an excellent example of 1300’s architecture. This guided tour will transport you back to Renaissance Florence and we are sure you will fall in love with this captivating city.

"We visited the Vatican with Maria after the standard closing times. It was fabolous to see the church light up at night and mostly silence in a very touristy place. The tour was well-paced and very informative. Would recommend!"
