Tour Description

Visit the must-see sites of the Eternal City with a local expert

This is the perfect tour for those who have only one day in Rome and wish to see the highlights of the Eternal City.

Our tour begins at the largest amphitheatre ever built, the Colosseum. There is no queuing as you enterwith pre-booked ticketsand enjoy a guided tour of the magnificent interior and seating levels. Outside once again you will see the Arch of Constantine, built in 315 A.D. to celebrate Constantine’s victory over Maxentius three years earlier.

We then take a walk through the central piazza of Ancient Rome, the Forum where we see the Arch of Titus, the House of the Vestal Virgins, the Temple of Saturn, the Senate House and the Arch of Septimus Severus. You follow the Sacred Way to reach Capitol Hill where you will see the magnificent Vittoriano, modern Italy’s greatest marble monument, built to celebrate Italy’s unification by the King Victor Emanuel II.

A short walk brings us to the ruins of an Ancient Roman Aqueduct followed by the splendour of the Trevi Fountain. Created by Niccolò Salvi in 1735 this is perhaps the most most well-known and beautiful fountain in the world. It is a popular custom to throw a coin in the fountain to ensure that you will return to Rome one day!

We stop here for a lunch break and your guide will suggest a number of excellent places to get a sandwich, a pizza or a three-course meal. After lunch the tour continues to the Government District to see the Parliament and the Palace of the Council of Ministers, two magnificent buildings of the Italian Republic. In front of the palace stands a masterpiece of II century Roman art, the marble Column of Marcus Aurelius.

Another short walk brings us to the Temple of Hadrian, built in his honour by his successor the Emperor Antoninus Pius. Behind the original marble columns is now home to the local Chamber of Commerce. Our next stop, the Pantheon, is reached via a narrow, charming street. This is the best-preserved temple of Ancient Rome and houses the Tomb of the painter Raphael.

We then cross the Ancient Baths of Nero and arrive in Piazza Navona, the Ancient Stadium built by Emperor Domitian. This beautiful, elegant square was decorated by Bernini and other XVI century masters. Here amongst the many churches and fountains you will see the famous Fountain of the Four Rivers.

Via a bridge across the River Tiber you will arrive to the highlight of the tour, a visit to the Vatican City. Here you can enjoy an exclusive tour of the Vatican Museums and St Peter’s Basilica. No waiting in line on this VIP tour! Your guide takes you to see the Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo’s famous ceiling followed by a visit to the Pope’s apartments with its frescoes by Raphael.

Is it possible to see Rome in a day? Yes! This private guided tour is a great way to visit all the “must-see” sights of Rome with no queues and no stress!

Pamela O. with our tour Guide Mariaclaudia

"We loved Maria! Her knowledge of Rome is very impressive and she made it so enjoyable. We will remember this day for a long time / we learned so much about the art and sites! My group of 3 friends spent the entire day with Maria- Vatican, Colosseum, a private walking tour of Rome & we loved slipping into the sites immediately, without any line!! Also she brought our tickets, in case we forgot them- all bases were covered! We loved the convenient little lunch place where she took us and really all aspects of this tour I can strongly recommend, including the communication by emails with the company prior to arrival and directions to meet our guide. Maria is a wonder- any group who wants to hear some of the history of the beautiful city of Rome from a engaging, extremely knowledgeable guide- will say the money is well spent!"
