This tour is a great opportunity to explore the magnificent treasures of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica accompanied by our very knowledgeable English-speaking guide. There will be no queuing as you have the benefit of pre-arranged admission. This will allow you to fully appreciate the wonders of the Vatican in a more relaxed manner on a tour that is both educational and informative.
Your guide will meet you at a pre-arranged time and your tour will begin with the Vatican Museums. The museums house beautiful artworks from the Renaissance period, including some of the world’s finest Roman and Greek antiquity. From the Cortile del Belvedere to Lysippos’ statues of Apollo, Laocoon and Apoxyomenos, you’ll marvel at the majestic scenes and beautiful treasures.
You will then move on to the Room of the Animals, the Hall of Muses with its famous Torso, the Greek Cross Room, the Gallery of the Candelabra and the Gallery of Tapestries.
Walk down the Hall of Geographic Maps to the Raphael Rooms where you can spend some time viewing his wonderful works including the Parnassus, School of Athens and Disputation of the Holy Sacrament.
Via a narrow passageway you then enter the Borgia Apartments and the stunning Sistine Chapel. Here you will find the magnificent frescoes by Michelangelo, Botticelli and Ghirlandaio, famous the world over.
Next stop on the tour is to St. Peter’s Basilica with its magnificent dome and the intriguing white marble Pietà, then down to the Vatican Grottoes where generations of popes have been laid to rest.
Finally, to end this comprehensive tour, your guide will walk you around St. Peter’s Square to see the impressive works by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and will point out the Apostolic Palace, residence of the popes and known throughout the world for its iconic smoking chimney.
